Warpaint

Disc/ /Very – Keep it Healthy is captivating. I watched it a good 20 times before dragging myself away. A perfectly good use of time.

It’s almost like a home video. In 90s jeans and loose t-shirts it is like they woke up one come-down morning, decided to go to a forest and stagger, dance and shuffle down a road. It shouldn’t have anything to it. They are just dancing down a road. But there is such an unbelievable throng of energy within them, an enjoyment of self.

I have never seen female musicians be so free in front of the camera. So self-contained and unapologetic.

It’s free, almost animalistic, but sexually mature in equal measure. Not least the screamy shouts as the break builds back up to the main song.

They drag you in, like a subtle perfume you want to be absorbed in. They don't try, but merely emit an elusive attitude that you should want to be in their club. Smoke dissipating from their flame, little to their care. Almost in spite of their admirers, they dance for themselves.
